Cool Ideas using Log Siding and Timberline Log Corners
Over the years we have had the opportunity to try multiple cool ideas & details to enhance the look of homes while using our log siding and log corners. These are just little extras that can add so much to a home. Your home is unique and deserves to stand out in a good way. Take a look at some of these ideas and techniques. Some of these ideas are pretty elaborate, but all have the same concept, to add a personal touch.
Don’t be afraid to experiment with ideas when it comes to details. Do what I do.
- Visualize what the outcome should look like.
- Sketch it the best you can. It doesn’t have to be pretty.
- Find the material and tools and knowledge you might need.
- START
- Always step back and look. Modify as necessary.
- If your not getting the effect you want, tear it out and start over. It is only wood. The valuable part is the dream. Log homes are unique in that they shouldn’t look like they were made with a cookie cutter. Imperfections are called personality in the log home business.

This small porch balanced the front of the cabin. The other porch support is on the ground.
These small log trusses are non-structural and has added very little weight. The snow not so.
This is where to back up and see if you are getting the look you want. Beautiful!
The log truss adds a lot to the charm of this cabin. Note the bent stair rail. The carpenter climbed way up in a tree to get the one he wanted. Crazy mountain man.
The stone work is what makes this home. Don't be afraid to mix different materials, there is some stucco on the back side.

Beautiful log porch makes this home. This log work would have to be engineered for the snow load.
The logs are massive for the look only. It was supported before the remodel by a few 4x4 post. The dog would not let a stranger on the porch. He liked me though.
A very simple shed roof porch added a lot to this remodel.

The least expensive and most dramatic detail is log rafter tails. Note a rafter tail on right side of scaffold. Pretty simple.
The lower rafter tails are 9" long and the upper purlins are 24". We can supply half purlins also.
A good balance to the rafter tails. About 3 foot apart works well.

If you have to replace a window, just remove trim and pull the window. No tearing off siding. Homeowner DIY.
